TIME FOR A BREAK (May 24, 2009)

The local elections are behind us for a full week, but the pre-election atmosphere still lingers in Motovun. Each of the three parties that share the municipal council posts is meeting regularly to decide its ultimate lineup. Alliances between parties are being built at a clip, as well. All sorts of stories are ricocheting about town, and the uncertainty is thus growing by the day. As three times thirteen people are directly involved in this subterranean game, their voices are becoming ever more hushed. Their laughter is getting more and more subdued. Their faces are growing bland, if not also hard. And this is how things will keep developing until the first meeting of the new municipal council, which can be expected a couple of weeks from today. In short, it is time for a break. Somewhere far, far away.
