SUCH AN IFFY CURE (March 7, 2009)
The flu is behind me, or so I have assumed, but I am still far from well. I am coughing a lot and my nose is dripping all the time. My senses of taste and smell are still playing tricks on me. And I feel totally exhausted after only an hour of weeding in the garden. All in all, the flu is not yet behind me. Not really. I must slow down a bit if I do not wish to see its return. But this brings me back to my pet theory about the reason why I caught the flu in the first place. Namely, I had a tooth surgically removed several months ago, and I accepted my dentist’s advice to take some antibiotics afterwards. This was the first time I have accepted this sort of medicine for nearly a decade. My teeth are kind of special to me, I guess. The antibiotics must have weakened my immune system by killing off some of the bacteria that guard me against all sorts of invisible adversaries. True or not, I will be much more cautious the next time such an iffy cure is offered to me. And especially if it comes only a few months before the flu’s grim season.
