PAPERLESS OFFICE (October 14, 2009)
I have heard through the grapevine that many a ministry of the Croatian government has already achieved one of the most laudable objectives of modern administration: paperless office. A friend of a friend was no less than stunned when she recently visited one of the ministries. Wherever she went, and she visited many an office in a vast building in central Zagreb, she could not see a single piece of paper on any desk. Although there are those who think that this only shows that those who are lucky enough to have a safe job in top government institutions do absolutely nothing to earn their substantial salaries, this is actually a sign of rapid and relentless technological progress. And it will surely be emulated all the way down the administrative hierarchy. With the able help of the ministries, the paperless office will soon be the norm even in municipal offices across Croatia. Hooray!
