NEEDS INCARNATE (September 23, 2009)

Motovun has been crawling with old people the last few days. There are busloads of them day after day. Early and late in the tourist season, they are the bulk of visitors, too. No-one in town likes them, though. “They only come to pee here,” people like to grumble. “Hokey players,” people like to dismiss them on account of their crutches and Zimmer frames. But no-one spends a second thinking about ways to make them happy. That is, to collect some of their well-earned money by satisfying their needs. For crying out loud, they already made it all the way here on their own! It takes a minute or two to figure out the rest. For old people are needs incarnate.
