INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY (March 8, 2009)

Today we are celebrating the economic, political, and social achievements of women past, present, and future. In some parts of the world, this is a national holiday, too. As for Motovun, today we are celebrating two new members of our branch of the Green Party – Green Alternative, an Istrian political organization concerned with sustainable development of the peninsula. As is only appropriate, both of the new members are bright and spirited women. The truth be told, I find women in and around our town considerably braver than their men. They already make up more than a half of the recently formed branch. In addition, almost all the branch’s functionaries are women. If everything goes as I envisage at present, our performance at the upcoming local elections will hinge on women, as well. Long live the International Women’s Day!
