I DETEST A WIDE SPECTRUM OF ART (July 7, 2009)

Thus a graffito on a marble wall under the window of a fashionable store in the center of Zagreb.  Even though the writing betrays an artist’s practiced hand, and thereby more than a touch of rancid resentment behind the humor, I very much share the sentiment behind it.  I would perhaps go a small step farther, though.  My graffito would look something like this: “I detest all art as it has come to pass, with a possible exception of my own.”  This way the spectrum is defined pretty precisely.  Besides, the gnawing resentment is blissfully loud and clear.
