HEARTFELT BRAGGING (March 6, 2009)
Yes, it is time to return to the garden. Life will surely return to it within days. And there is much to do to prepare for planting in a few weeks. Besides, the garden will be my haven before the local elections, too. Already tired of all the village idiots who brim with political advice, I look forward to the weeding and digging. Or so I keep telling myself day after day. But the only thing I have managed to do so far is spend a quarter of an hour this afternoon pruning the rose bushes at one side of the garden. And even this evidently strikes me as an achievement worth bragging about. By comparison, the weeding and the digging will take me at least a fortnight. A fortnight of heavy toil, to be sure. Come to think of it, though, it will afford plenty of opportunities for heartfelt bragging, as well.
