UNDERWHELMING (May 19, 2008)
The new Residua website was launched three months ago, and it is about time to assess its success. To put it as bluntly as possible, going “live” has changed little. Or next to nothing. Although I have been cited here and there on a few occasions, and although a few readers have gotten to me via the site’s feedback function, the response so far has been underwhelming. And underwhelming is the word. Thus I often find myself wondering what to do to make my site more visible. Or tempting. But each and every time such thoughts surge through my mind, I try to calm myself down with the same soothing words: “Yours is but to cast the net and wait for the fish.” Everything else is up to the fish, that is.
Addendum (November 3, 2016)
So many years later, little if anything has changed. According to Google Analytics, my website is visited regularly, but the number of visitors remains, well, underwhelming. To be a bit more precise, there are about a couple of hundred of them per month, and they visit around a couple of thousand pages per month. Perhaps the only difference worth mentioning at this juncture is that I could not care less about most of the visitors any longer. By now, it is pretty clear to me that I am nearly the only visitor of any real concern to myself. All the niceties provided by the site itself and the World Wide Web are mainly for my own sake, anyway. And a few friends from around the world are always welcome. All the rest can go fly a kite.
