UNACCEPTABLE DAYS (November 12, 2008)
The weather has been so revolting the last couple of days that I refuse to open my shutters in the morning. That is, I open the bedroom shutters a crack, but I close them again as quickly as possible. “Unacceptable,” I can almost hear myself. And then I turn on all the lights in the house and treat the day as another long night, when the shutters are always closed, anyway. Every now and then I turn on the music, which helps a lot with unacceptable days, especially if loud. As of late, it is Bach more often than not. Before long, the gloomy and sticky fog out there dissolves in my mind.
