TEMPTING (March 1, 2008)
A staunch bachelor, Branko Beletić conducts his affairs with intelligence and wisdom. When I saw him at Klaudio’s a month ago, his head was shaved clean that very day. “The spring will be with us soon,” he explained, “and everything grows best at this time of the year.” As it transpired, this is something he does every year. And he does not touch his hair in the meanwhile. Not once. When I saw him at Klaudio’s this morning, his hair was already about as long as mine. “Your hair-grooming ways are surely tempting,” I told him, “but I don’t believe I could live with hair longer than it is right now.” In fact, I must have my haircut early next week. Sadly, intelligence and wisdom do not spread easily.
