NOT AMONG THE PHOTOGENIC ONES (January 5, 2008)
Renata Vrtarić has a new camera. I know little about such things, but it looks impressive at first glance. It is big, heavy, and black. She has taken many pictures of several recent holiday events with it. This evening I went through most of them at her place. One thing that becomes evident before long is that people fall in two easily recognizable groups: some look better then their pictures, and some look worse. It is as simple as that. Some people are photogenic, and some are not. Period. As we were going through the pictures, I said something about looking quite horrendous in most of them. “Oh,” Renata chuckled, “you actually look much better than most of your pictures do.” In short, I am not among the photogenic ones. It was a blow of sorts, but I regained my composure soon enough. “Yup,” I mumbled to myself, “much, much better.”
