DOGWEAR (December 19, 2008)
On this visit to the Croatian capital I have noticed that many dogs are as well dressed as are their masters. And especially mistresses. Some wear sweaters, other have jackets. And a few have elaborate coats that must cost a mint. Perhaps this is my first visit this late in the season, but I have a feeling dogwear is very much in fashion this year. One way or another, I was delighted a moment ago when I saw a tramp’s dog wearing a special outfit, as well. It was a carefully-folded sheet of clear plastic held by the collar and a yellow plastic bag twisted into a cord and strapped around the belly. The dog, a smallish mongrel in its mature years, appeared to feel most comfortable in it, too. Its head and tail raised high, it trotted happily behind its master, who was bundled up in all sorts of rags, as though it was on parade. Dogwear for all!
