CHECKING MY DEAD SITE (November 18, 2008)

This morning I got up a bit earlier than usual. As I often do, I checked my electronic mail before going for a shower. I also checked the headlines of a few newspapers on the Internet. When I was finished with all this, which took a couple of minutes only, I noticed that I could not get to my Residua website. I tried a few times, but always with the same results. “Can’t open the page,” my browser kept reporting, “because the server stopped responding.” I rushed to my study after the shower, but I still could not get to my site. After a quick message to Paul Bazay, the site designer, I went out for my morning coffee. When I returned home, I rushed to my study again. “Can’t open the page,” my browser calmly reported once again. And this is how it has been ever since. Paul is in Canada, where it is still far from the morning, and so it will take him a while to respond to my message. In the meanwhile, I am so anxious I cannot do anything at all. Except checking my dead site every few minutes.

Addendum (November 19, 2008)

It was around eight o’clock in the morning when I discovered that my site was dead, and it came alive again around five in the afternoon. A short while later, I got Paul’s message, which was sent just after nine in the morning his time. His company’s server crashed, and they had to reboot it. They are looking into the cause of the crash, so that it does not happen again. I hope to learn about their findings in a day or two. The main problem is that the crash happened while Paul and his mates were asleep, which is why it took so long for the problem to be fixed. Indeed, let us hope it does not happen again.
