Forty years ago, I was among the reds in Yugoslavia of old who demanded that the socialist principles known to all be applied in full. Among others, I was appalled by all the shenanigans of the ruling Communist Party. Sorry, Communist League. Forty years since, I am among the greens in new Croatia who demand that the democratic principles known to all be applied in full. Among others, I am appalled by all the shenanigans of the many parties ruling different regions of the country. Idealistic to boot, I am still demanding that the proclaimed principles be honored to the letter. Put differently, in forty years I have learned not a thing.
