“FUNNY” (August 6, 2008)
If one were to describe life with a single word, as well as a well-traveled one, the best word one could come up with would be “funny.” As I write, my beloved is in a Zagreb hospital. She is suffering a great deal, but I cannot do a single thing to help her. As a matter of fact, she is lucky to have a bed in a hospital of some renown. If everything goes well, she will be out of the crisis in a couple of days. At the same time, my No. 1 son is getting married in Motovun. The wedding will be two days from now, but the guests have started arriving two days ago. Wherever we go, we need ever-larger tables. Everyone is concerned about my beloved, but life must go on. Under the circumstances, we are as merry as we can be. Yes, “funny” is the right word for life, the quotation marks included. Actually, the quotation marks are quite essential in this connection.
