THE FESTIVAL LAG (July 28, 2007)
The film festival in Motovun always takes place in the last week of July. It starts on Monday and ends on Friday. After many years, most people in town adjust to the festival pace rather quickly. The roaring party following the screening of the movies goes until four-thirty in the morning the first four days, and until six the last day of the festival. The best thing to do is to go to bed when the party ends and wake up around or after noon. So, a festival lag of sorts takes place on the weekend. Saturday is cut short, and so is even Sunday. This time around, my beloved and I went to bed around noon today, and we got up close to six in the afternoon. This will be one of our shortest Saturdays ever. And the festival lag will reach its all-time record, at least in our own experience.
