SOMETHING HUGE (July 26, 2007)

“A butterfly!” she started yelling from the bedroom. I was in my study at the time. “A bat!” she yelled again and ran toward me. We met in the middle of the corridor. “Something huge is flying about!” she yelled one more time. As soon as I walked into the bedroom, which was rather dark, I realized it was a bat. It somehow squeezed in through a crack in the shutters. “It’s okay,” I whispered as I closed the bedroom door so as to make sure the poor thing did not get deeper into the house. “It’s okay,” I kept repeating softly as I edged toward the window. The bat was circling around the room all the time. “It’s okay,” I whispered again as I opened the shutters wide. After a few more rounds, the bat fluttered out the window. “Darling,” I yelled when I closed the shutters, “it’s okay!” She was a bit apologetic about all the fuss, but she was so sweet when she nestled into my tender embrace.
