RATHER A BLESSING (October 10, 2007)
Zlata Nemet organized a medical examination for Motovun’s pensioners. It took place this morning. She is the secretary of the pensioners’ association, and she organizes such events once a year, but she invites all and sundry for the free check-up. A nurse from Pazin took the blood pressure and sugar level, and Zlata wrote the readings into a big book with hard covers, which seemed to be designed for this particular purpose. I was one of the last to arrive. Zlata was most happy with my results, but she immediately told me that she was quite worried about Ljubica Handjal. Both her blood pressure and sugar level were alarmingly high, and Zlata told me exactly what she had written in her book. I was taken aback by what struck me as an indiscretion at first, but then I realized it was rather a blessing of a small town. Of course, I should know about Ljubica blood pressure and sugar level, for we are often together. We care for each other, too. Even though she is stubborn like a mule, I can help her with her habits. Thanking Zlata for what she had told me, I went out in search of Ljubica.
