A WRETCHED BARGAIN (August 9, 2007)

When the new Residua website comes on line within a month or two, my old habit of sending my writings to friends as electronic postcards will become obsolete. Once the site becomes operational, I will inform them all that my new writings will always be available on the World Wide Web. Within minutes, too. Everything I write will then go to the site, just as it has gone for years to the list of my friends. Of course, some of them will visit the site regularly, but many will not. By and by, they will forget about my writings. There will be new readers, though. And new friends, as well. With some luck, there will be ever more of them as the new site gathers momentum. As it has dawned on me only today, this is what my new site is really about: it is a wretched bargain between old and new friends.

Addendum (February 5, 2008)

Within a month or two? That would make it last September or October at the latest. In fact, the new Residua website will be launched this week or maybe next, about six months later. And the site will still need a lot of reformatting work in the months to come. That is how it is with most projects, though. They tend to take two-to-three times longer than expected. It never ceases to amaze me that I never seem to remember this simple fact ahead of time. And I am a planer by profession!
