BOYS WILL BE BOYS (January 13, 2005)
A short while ago, Klaudio Ivašić took a close-up of Miro Kopčalić and me with his new mobile-phone camera. Sitting next to each other at Klaudio’s we were both puffing at cigars bought in the café. The next evening Klaudio told us the picture turned out quite wonderful. His little toy has quite a resolution, he told us proudly. Yesterday he printed it out on letter-size glossy paper and presented it to us with gusto. There we were, beaming tipsily into the camera. “Look,” I yelled as soon as I saw the picture, “yours is thinner than mine!” Indeed, my cigar was at least twice as thick as his. We all tease Miro for his miserliness, but the macho undertone of my remark shows perfectly well how puerile our café banter often gets. Alas, boys will be boys, as the threadbare expression goes.
