Now doves and now finches, now magpies and now wood-pigeons are copulating in the same tree as though no other birds have ever existed. Each pair of each species to itself, and in earnest. But woe betide any other bird of the same species that would chance upon this fabulous tree at the same time! So far, no trouble, though. This late in the season copulation is all about law and order.
