THE FADING DATE (February 8, 2003)

Once again, I find myself thinking about Lauren on our anniversary. Once again, I find myself feeling a mixture of tenderness and anger toward her. Tenderness, because we were very much in love when we met fourteen years ago. Anger, because we could have stayed together had she been a bit wiser. We could have taken care of Dorian and Maya together. Although I do not wish to live with her and the children any longer, I long fought for the marriage and the family. Well, she did, too. To be fair, it would have helped had I been a bit wiser, as well. Which is why I am certain that she will be feeling a mixture of tenderness and anger on this day. Assuming she still remembers the fading date, of course.
