I do not want the past to return, for it cannot. Future is our only option. But I want to know the past, and especially our species’ infancy and early childhood, so as to better appreciate our loss. And I want to help others better appreciate that loss, as well. Just imagine this world with humans in thousands and horses, bears, rhinos, mammoth, aurochs, deer, lions, ibex, lynx, hyenas, bison, wolves in untold millions. Now look around you. Our loss is horrendous, indeed.
