SPOKEN, WRITTEN (February 21, 2003)

People gesticulate even when they talk on the phone. They know full well those on the other side of the line cannot see their gestures, but they still use their hands. Gesticulation is not a part of “non-verbal” communication; rather, it is a part of speech. Which is why spoken and written language are so different. For proof, just try to write down conversation recorded on tape or compact disk.
