IN PRAISE OF HEMINGWAY (October 17, 2003)
Having had something to eat, a bunch of us are sitting around the table. We are loud. “It’s a bit like that book…,” a friend pauses, searching for the novel that sums up her husband’s story, which he has just finished telling. Sitting by her side, he is smiling. And so is everyone else. “Ah,” she comes up with the title, “Man and Fish!” The table turns quiet. “You mean…,” another friend says quietly, “Hemingway?” She nods. There is much merriment around the table.
