GRUMBLING (October 1, 2003)

An almost invisible layer of mist veiled the sky early this morning, but it was sunny and warm still. As the day progressed, the mist thickened and the sun dimmed. And dimmed. Until it vanished around noon. By late afternoon everything turned gloomy. There are no threatening clouds yet in sight, but the sky is leaden. It is barely moving. Feeling its weight, yearning for the light, I was about to start grumbling about the weather. But I pulled myself together just in time.
