About a year ago, if not more, I started collecting addresses and all other details I could find of artists, gallerists, art critics, and curators in Istria. “Art in Istria,” I named the file. As always, my definition of Istria was quite broad. It went to Rijeka to the east, and Trieste to the west. Well, it included Ljubljana and Venice, as well. By and by, the file grew quite large. It stopped growing when I arrived in Istria, though. Having not touched this file for five months, if not more, I gave it a glance this morning. And then I chucked it in the bin.

Addendum (January 27, 2004)

The names of some of the people who figured in my file pop up in the articles about the Istrian art scene in the local newspapers. An opening here, an interview there… Each and every time this happens, I remember my “Art in Istria” file. And I rejoice in my decision to chuck it in the old bin.
