SLUMPING (July 20, 2000)
I am watching from my window a fellow slumped by the Reading Abbey ruins. From time to time he brings a bright-green plastic bag to his mouth and breaths in and out of it. Perhaps there is something like glue in it. Completely oblivious to passers-by, he keeps breathing into his bag and slumping ever deeper into the ruins. I appreciate his method, simple and effective as it is, but I wonder whether he has what it takes to join with the ruins and vanish out of sight for good.
