EVEN THE SHEEP (July 30, 2000)
The sheep that spend their summers high in the Alps, where no-one takes care of them on a regular basis, are quite skittish when they see people. But they are quite partial to climbers, who are covered with sweat, that is, salt. The sheep are crazy about salt. Once they gain some confidence, they can become quite forward and even aggressive. They start by licking your hands, arms, legs. Finding no more magical stuff, they begin biting you and chewing on your clothing or the straps of your knapsack. At first you are delighted by their attentions, but you end up by having to either run away or turn aggressive yourself. You may have to kick them or throw stones at them. Even the sheep can turn into wild beasts if you are not careful.
