IT IS DISASTER MANAGEMENT, STUPID! (September 26, 2021)
After many a natural disaster around the world during the last few months, cries demanding the end of global warming and/or climate change are getting louder and louder. They must be stopped as soon as possible, or so it is hoped. The many cannot possibly understand that such feats are well beyond human ability at this stage of evolution. The best that can be done right now is disaster management (“Ten Principles of Disaster Management,” January 19, 2015). And one of the first steps in this endeavor is identification of regions around the globe that are most at risk from natural disasters—floods, landslides, droughts, storms, and the like. The next step is to do whatever possible to remove humans from such regions and place them in safer ones. This is far from easy, but it is still within human capabilities. In addition, preparations need to be made for upcoming natural disasters, for they are unavoidable. Even more, they cannot but grow in number and severity in the foreseeable future. To crown all of these measures, humans need to understand that further growth of human population will only lead to ever-greater loss of life from natural disasters yet to come. It is time to limit procreation to its minimum, for the explosion of human population is at the bottom of climate change including global warming. Wait a minute, though. Why am I jotting all of this down? Nobody will read it, anyway. At best, those who happen to read it with a dash of understanding will only chuckle at my naïveté. Boo-hoo!
