GOOD RIDDANCE, GOOGLE ANALYTICS! (October 24, 2021)
Ever since my Residua website turned into a blog, which was as many as thirteen years ago, I had been delighted by Google Analytics (see, e.g., “Google Analytics,” November 16, 2008; and “Homage to Google Analytics,” December 31, 2010). Whenever I wished, I could follow the visitors to my site with amazing precision. Among other things, their numbers, locations, interests, and tenacity were at my fingertips. Due to my own ignorance of the World Wide Web, though, I screwed up the link to this service a couple of months ago. After many unsuccessful attempts to restore it, and many they surely were, I ultimately decided to give up. And for good. Hey, who the hell cares about visitors! And my main argument against Google Analytics is predictable enough: ignorance is a blessing for the wise (see, e.g., “The Will to Ignorance,” December 5, 2015; and “Nescire quædam magna pars sapientiæ est,“ April 7, 2021). As of late, I cannot but rejoice at my unexpected if belated decision. Good riddance, Google Analytics! The same holds for all the visitors in search of endless entertainment, to be sure. The few and far between to my liking are likely to enjoy my writings well after my death, anyway.
