CITATA TO PROMOTE (January 15, 2019)

Having spent at least a week dealing with citata in my magnum opus, I decided to put together a file with all the citata I should promote in the years to come. “Citata to Promote” is the file’s unsurprising title. As it now stands, the file is somewhat chaotic, but it still gives me enormous pleasure. Indeed, there are many pieces of writing of mine that deserve greater attention. The file in question will develop over a year or two, but I decided to present it in its current form without any further ado. All told, there are a few more than two-hundred pieces divided into twenty categories. By the way, this amounts to roughly one percent of all my writings, which strikes me as reasonable. All pieces are presented in chronological order. It should be noted that there will be occasional overlaps between categories, such as “animal” and “tribe,” “shamanism” and “cave art,” or “humans” and “stupidity.” Still, each piece appears only once. Here goes, with categories heading each sub-list:

As ever, the new file and this particular piece of writing have been put together for my own sake, rather than for the sake of some imaginary reader. In my experience to date, there have been very few readers of my Residua that deserve mention, let alone praise. Say, a dozen of them. To date, I am my best reader. Anyhow, I expect to come up with several more categories in the fullness of time, as well as to arrange them in a coherent manner. And I will do my best to ensure that the list of my pieces worthy of citing is geared to the very best among them. That is, to those that give me the greatest joy whenever I come across them on one of my uncharted journeys through my writings, which are becoming ever more frequent as time goes by. In a few years, the file is likely to be more-or-less complete, but the present one is a fair beginning, I reckon. This piece will remain as a reminder of the endeavor’s humble beginnings. Once again, the bulk of future citata in my Residua is most likely to come from the above list. Forever interlacing, as I like to put it. Alleluia!

Addendum I (October 28, 2019)

Every so often, I add a few items to the above list, which is rather impressive by now. There are many citata to promote, as it turns out. So far, I have added a few more categories, as well. Predictably enough, I am doing my best to dampen my enthusiasm for citata of all descriptions. Enough is enough, I keep telling myself. But it is anyone’s guess how this project of mine will end up. For my sins, I love my writings! At any rate, here goes the extended list:

GEOMANCY

DEATH

“Bravo!” (October 23, 1994)
The Greatest Gift Revisited (May 2, 2018)
Thanks, Bill! (April 14, 2019)

Perhaps the greatest surprise among the new categories is the one on geomancy. Although it is half in jest, I am quite eager to keep contributing to this art form in the years to come. And Motovun strikes me as an ideal place for such an effort. Right in the middle of nowhere, it still feels like the very center of the world. Nay, the universe entire. Be that as it may, the list of citata to promote is sure to keep growing over time. For all my effort to curtail it, it cannot but surprise me every now and then. Alas, my love of my writings cannot but grow and grow as I get longer and longer in the tooth!

Addendum II (January 17, 2020)

Given all the givens, it is time to wrap up the list of categories. Since the first addendum was written, I have come up with five more of them. By now, there are twenty-eight categories on the list, which strikes me as the right number. Well, if not right, at least manageable in the years to come. I can imagine that many more new categories will suggest themselves in the fullness of time, but I will do my best to resist the urge to add them to the list. At the moment, there are more than three-hundred pieces on the list of citata to promote. Nonetheless, citata must be kept in line just like addenda, not to mention new pieces of writing. Enough is enough, as I like to repeat to myself whenever I feel the urge to jot anything down. Anyway, here goes the extended list:

The last category has been weighing upon me for quite a few years. I can only hope that I will hear from the vaunted court sometime soon. It has been five years since my case was officially accepted, anyway. Returning to citata to promote, there are many of them. Interestingly, this particular piece of writing is rather popular among the visitors to my Residua website. Lately, it regularly pops up on the very first page of Google search results. No matter how many pieces are listed here, the collection is much easier to get through than my magnum opus in its entirety. Whence its popularity, I reckon. Be that as it may, this list of citata is useful for me, too. It offers a handy overview of my writing project, which is in its forty-fifth year already. In a sense, it represents an exemplary résumé of my life’s work.
