A COMPLETE AND TOTAL JUMBLE (January 8, 2019)

Visiting any worldwide news agency’s website for only a few minutes can be a mindblowing experience. Here, last news about research on climate change. There, results from a recent sports event of world renown. Somewhere in between, garbled opinions of a leading politician about the ongoing trade war between the so-called east and west. In short, the current stories are all over the place. It takes only a few minutes to realize that humans are incapable of figuring out what makes a difference and what does not. Indeed, most of the news are utterly irrelevant in the large scheme of things. A soap-opera star’s breast enlargement is on a par with war-mongering in one of the contested sea straights. Death of a scientist with untold achievements is apparently of the same importance as financial returns from a recent horror movie. And the most expensive wedding-dresses on offer today are to be found right next to an account of a number of marine species that have gone extinct in recent years. Simply put, nothing if not a jumble. But it is good to remember that this is the state of the collective human mind at this stage of the species’ evolution, which is properly reflected by quite a few news agencies that can be found on the World Wide Web at this juncture. A complete and total jumble, to be sure.
