TWO DAYS IN A ROW (April 4, 2016)
I decided a week ago not to write a word the next two days. So far this year, I have written nothing at all for two days in a row only twice: February 24 and 25, and March 9 and 10. After so many years over which I have not willingly skipped a single day in my writing, this is quite a feat. As well as a formidable challenge. Very much aware of the next couple of days, I kept checking them day after day on the calendar that rests on my dining table, where they are conspicuously marked: April 5 and 6. And here they are at last. Tomorrow and the day after. The best I can do under the circumstances is to embrace both of them with all my heart. Nay, cherish them both. In a few weeks, I will decide on two days in a row when I will write not a word the next month. May 19 and 20, perhaps? Sooner or later, I will go for three days in a row. And then four of them. All of which crosses my mind at this particular moment only to help me cope with the challenge right ahead…
Addendum (May 13, 2016)
As it turns out, this month will not be graced with only two fallow days in a row, but with three of them. This will be a first. I just decided to go for May 18, 19, and 20. On these three days, I will write not a word. As for four days in a row, I will have to wait a bit longer. August strikes me as the right month for the challenge, though. At any rate, this year will have been graced with thirty fallow days by the end of this month. Hooray!
