THE GOOEY GOOK (November 24, 2016)

Most of the street cats around my house are suffering from diarrhea. Given their crazy diet, as well as much fasting between quick and fierce meals, they must be suffering from a wide variety of intestinal disorders. Seeing the cobblestones up and down Borgo covered with gooey gook of all colors, I feel a bit concerned for the cats, but there is little I can do about it. Although I occasionally give them a little something to eat, I will be in Zagreb the first three months of the year. And there are only a few neighbors who feed them regularly enough. The best the cats can do is to move down Borgo, where there are a few more houses that are not deserted in the winter. But there are street cats there, too, and every move would mean internecine war. For the time being, the best I can do is watch my step when it gets dark, for bringing the gooey gook into my house does not attract me a single bit. Perish the thought.
