OUT OF THE PURPLE (April 3, 2016)

The wisteria and bignonia on my terrace were long ready to declare the onset of spring, but both of them chose to come out this very morning. Their buds are exploding. Entirely different plants, they face nearly identical conditions some ten paces from each other. The wisteria is on the northern and the bignonia on the southern wall of the terrace. It is amazing to watch them from hour to hour, too. The wisteria is already in flower, while the bignonia is now sprouting only leaves. Its flowers will come out in about a month. Out of the blue, the northern wall of the terrace is turning purple. And it is literally a question of hours. Out of the purple, as a matter of fact. The new expression fits the facts so much better than the old and hackneyed one. To the letter, as it were. The terrace is the place to be at the moment. Which is why I already feel that I am wasting my time writing about it. As I write, the wisteria’s flowers are opening at a clip. Actually, it is a question of minutes rather than hours. Goodness gracious, no time to waste any longer…
