WOLF APPLES (September 1, 2015)

As I am peeling apples and cutting them up for my compote, I become aware of the fact that they can be hardly called apples. As luck would have it, yesterday I found some Golden Delicious apples in the local store, but any variety of the fruit I can get in any store anywhere around the world is as different from a real apple as a Golden Retriever is from a wolf. In all likelihood, I have never eaten a real apple, just as I have never patted a wolf. Can they still be found? For lack of a better word, I start referring to them in my mind as wolf apples, for I have never heard of wild apples. Like wolves, they must have survived to this day, too. If so, how come they are not available on the market? Indeed, why have I never heard of them? By the time my compote is already cooking, I am quite eager to taste of wolf apples. Living in Motovun, I have a rare opportunity of fulfilling my wish. The neighboring Kaldir is famous for many different fruits, and someone there must know about apples in their natural state. Will I be so lucky as to taste them one fine day?
