UPON WAKING (February 8, 2015)
Upon waking, I am often overwhelmed by a feeling very like happiness as soon as I remember my book. Or is it my library? Whatever it is, it is always there. Always in waiting. And always ready to be added to and embellished at will. My will. This feeling is always there, and for years now, but sometimes it is stronger than usual. More exhilarating. The last few days have been quite special in this respect. Day after day, I am outright happy upon waking. “My book is there,” I feel like shouting. “Or is it my library?” The persistent question only makes me smile.
Addendum I (December 11, 2016)
The purported persistent question is silly at best. Both notions of book and library are outdated. They go back at least three millennia by now. My Residua website is divided into yearbooks, but this subdivision is only a matter of convenience imposed by the calendar. In fact, the website is one and indivisible on the World Wide Web. Various selections from my magnum opus, which are available on my Ca’ Bon Gallery website, are a matter of convenience once again. Most humans are incapable of making such selections all by themselves, and thus I have done my best to help them along. For instance, selections about cave art, climate change, or yoga are there just to show that many other selections of this ilk are possible. Actually, advisable. Whoever wishes to come up with yet another one is more than welcome. Again, my writings add up to neither a book nor a library. At present, they amount to more than three-million words that form a mind-boggling whole. One life on one website. And one that is still ticking along…
Addendum II (November 27, 2019)
Upon waking, I am overwhelmed again and again by a feeling very like happiness as soon as I remember my book. To my joy, the feeling was with me last night, as well. And I cannot but report it with unbridled joy this morning. Indeed, I feel outright lucky to have started recording my thoughts no less than forty-four years ago. By now, there are many selections from my writings in my trail, as well. And I call them books one and all. Reading the first addendum thus makes me smile, for I keep adding to my library at a pace that is confusing even to myself. By now, I am close to four-million words, but there is no end to my project in sight. Whether it is a book or a library is irrelevant to me by now. The ease with which I can find anything about myself on my Residua website is hard to match, and that is all I care about at this juncture. Whatever crosses my mind is right in front of my eyes a short while later. Whence the feeling very like happiness upon waking that I experience ever more often. And it keeps growing from year to year, I am glad to report this time around. Upon waking, it is now approaching ecstasy, I dare say.
