Penis nicknames are in the news. According to a mysterious survey that is bantered about on the World Wide Web, seventy-three percent of men have a special name for their pride. In fifty-nine percent of the cases, the name comes from their girlfriends in their first few weeks together. The three most popular are Troy, Hercules, and The Rock. Interestingly, the eleventh most popular name is Napoleon. But the topmost nickname surprised me most. Coming from the Iliad and its sequel, Odyssey, it harks back to the famous war that took place more than three millennia ago. Amazingly, many an astute girlfriend apparently remembers it to this day. As luck would have it, there is an Istrian historian who now claims that present day Motovun is at the site of Homeric Troy. The peninsula has a Greek name after Danube, for it was once believed that one of its branches went to the northern coast of the Adriatic, and it harbors Greek toponyms galore. According to the historian in question, many toponyms along the Mirna valley support his audacious claim. Be that as it may, now I feel that my house is perched on top of a penis of legendary proportions. The only mystery that still remains is the owner of the pride. Zeus himself?
