THE RIGHT TO VOTE (February 16, 2015)

I am watching a short woman in her late sixties or early seventies looking at a window of a jewelry store in the pedestrian area of the Croatian capital. Wearing a short black coat and an equally short red skirt, she is perched on surprisingly high black heels. Her hair dyed bright read, she is in shiny black stockings. In addition to a large black bag, she is wearing a pair of gargantuan dark glasses. Her attention to every piece of jewelry on offer is mesmerizing. When she leaves the window at last and waddles down the street, a single thought shapes in my head: “And she enjoys the right to vote!”
