THE NEWEST (January 13, 2015)

Having just written yet another addendum, and to a piece that goes back nearly thirty years, I have hard time suppressing a smirk on account of our failing civilization. Today’s reader is craving for the new. The newest, as a matter of fact. Anything old is of no interest whatsoever, let alone anything that reaches into the Eighties of the last century. But the new cannot be separated from the old in my magnum opus. They are tightly intertwined, but much of the new is out of sight. It is nigh invisible. Only an intrepid reader could find it by searching for new addenda, which are growing both in number and punch. In this sense, my writings are ever more mine, and mine alone. Which tickles me no end. My cozy burrow is becoming ever cozier. And ever closer to my heart. Bye-bye, dear reader!

Addendum I (January 23, 2015)

All that the reader needs to do to find my most recent addenda is to search my Residua website with the current month and year as search words. Right now, the magical formula is “January 2015.” All the addenda written this month will pop up on the screen as if by magic. Counting this one, there are twenty-four of them so far. Easy-peasy. So much for the intrepid reader. An imaginary character, no doubt.

Addendum II (August 30, 2015)

So far, only three years are ahead of the current one in terms of the number of addenda written per year. In a week or so, only one year will remain to beat. It is year 2000 with two-hundred and twenty-four addenda. Wow! Years 2013 and 2014 follow with one-hundred and seventy-seven and one-hundred and seventy-four addenda, respectively. So far, the current year is graced with one-hundred and sixty-six addenda, not counting this one. What these records show is that I am crawling ever deeper into my cozy burrow as of late. As far as I am concerned, today’s reader can go to hell, and the newest one at that. After all, my burrow is my own heaven.

Addendum III (November 16, 2015)

Well, this year has long been the record one in terms of the number of addenda written per year. In fact, the record was broken on September 14 of this year (“The Year of the Addenda,” September 3, 2015). But that was long ago. Not including this one, I have already written three-hundred and thirty-three addenda this year. Wow! I cannot believe my own eyes. Which is why I cannot even guess how many addenda there will be by the end of the year. One way or another, this year is likely to remain the record one for many years to come. And that is my most sincere hope, for I am getting tired of records. All records. Returning to the hapless reader, my magnum opus is likely to stretch beyond his or her quest for the newest. Which makes me feel ever-so-slightly sorry.
