THE GANGES REPETITION, AGAIN (August 26, 2015)

Something strange happened with my Residua website earlier today. Everything looked fine on the first page, where the motto greets the reader, as well as the second page, where the preface offers a glimpse of my endeavor. And everything looked fine on the listing of pieces on every yearbook page. But when any of the pieces was clicked in an attempt to open it, the motto page appeared one more time with some text scrolled on top. “Word Press database error,” it started. “Got error 28 from storage engine,” it continued. Among a pile of gobbledygook that followed, I could recognize only “the-ganges-repetition” followed by number 48 in parentheses. Indeed, there is such a piece in my magnum opus (“The Ganges Repetition,” January 6, 2015). Stumped, I sent the entire text concerning the error to Paul Bazay, who takes care of the site all the way in Calgary, Canada, and pleaded with him to fix the problem as soon as possible. A short while later, everything returned to normal all by itself. None the wiser, I went to the current yearbook and clicked the piece cited. It comes straight from the Buddha’s mouth: “Just as, monks, the River Ganges tends to the east, inclines to the east, slides to the east, in exactly the same way a monk who cultivates and makes much of the noble eightfold path tends to nibbana, inclines to nibbana, slides to nibbana…” And I smiled to myself at once. Chinese hackers, I reckon. Yesterday’s piece about China’s economy must have prompted the latest attack. And they kindly reminded me of my quest for enlightenment. Thank you, comrades! I appreciate your concern, and I fully agree with you, too. Who cares about China, anyway?
