THE DOWNPOUR (July 27, 2015)

As luck would have it, “The Lobster” (2015) directed by Yorgos Lanthimos ended up in a downpour this evening. My beloved and I dashed out of the packed upper square, where the movie was shown, squeezed through the jammed archway leading to the lower square, and then jogged down Borgo all the way home. We were only half wet by the time we got through the front door. But we were both delighted by the felicitous ending of the second movie that we happened to see at this year’s Motovun film festival. The downpour was a godsend. As for the movie itself, the ending will forever remain a complete and total mystery for us, not to mention the rest of the plot. Dystopian future, or so the critics maintain. Nowadays, every movie should end with a downpour. And all the wannabe lobsters of this day and age will be eternally grateful.
