TALKING TO MYSELF, AGAIN (May 16, 2015)
“Don’t worry,” I am talking to myself as I am unzipping my pants in the toilet, “you’ve written enough today.” When I start peeing, I continue in the softest of voices: “It’s perfectly okay even if you don’t write any more for five whole days!” Having shaken myself off and flushed the toilet, I go for the merry conclusion: “You’ve written enough in your life already, anyway.” As I am zipping my pants, I add the flourish: “Three-million words is more than plenty!” And this is what I do over and over again. Day after day. Alas, writing is the easiest part of the day.
