STRANDED FOR TRUE (June 9, 2015)

I have become so accustomed to the World Wide Web that it takes a glitch in its accessibility for me to become aware of my insensible ways. I am sitting in one of my favorite cafés in central Zagreb and fiddling my thumbs. For some reason that nobody around me understands, the wireless connection is out of commission. My laptop is staring at me blankly: “What next?” Whence this piece, of course. I am lost in space. My favorite online newspapers are out of reach. And so are my own websites, not to mention the electronic mail. In short, I am stranded for true. Amazingly, only glitches like these make me aware of my dependence on the greatest invention of my age. When everything works smoothly, I am oblivious of its importance in my life. As well as liable to rail against it whenever an opportunity arises. But here I am, an addict of a technology that is entirely beyond me. Wait a minute, though! The wireless connection seems to be working at last!
