MIGRANT ORIGINS AND DESTINATIONS (September 16, 2015)
Search for any data regarding migrant origins and destinations across the globe, and the picture will be clear in a jiffy: migrants come from the poorest countries and they go to the richest countries. The poorest countries are in Africa, Asia, and South America. The richest countries are in Europe and North America. No surprises here. The data is presently changing due to the war in the Middle East, but it is otherwise stable. Now, add the ravages of climate change and environmental degradation, and the flow of migrants is intensified. The greater the ravages, the greater the number of migrants in search of food and shelter. In short, all the current migrant flows could have been predicted with great precision. As well as prepared for well ahead of time. Add a few years or decades, and the migrant flows will only intensify, and keep intensifying at a clip. How many migrants can be expected in the future? Give or take a few million, all the people from the poorest countries in the world will be on the move in a decade or so. A few billion people, that is. At least a billion people will be heading for North America, and at least a couple of billion will be heading for Europe. The consequences? A horror movie must be in the making already.
