MERE GIBBERISH (February 10, 2015)
I was surprised this morning by a surge of visitors to my Residua website. Their number suddenly doubled. And I was even more surprised to learn from Google Analytics that the surge came from China. Or Beijing, to be a bit more precise. Interestingly, all the Chinese visitors bounced off immediately. They spent only a few seconds on my website. What were they looking for, though? That is, what was it that they had failed to find? Chances are that I will never learn, but the surge started me thinking. If even the slightest interest from China made my Google Analytics numbers jump all over the place, what would happen if the interest took hold? Or started growing? Perish the thought. A thousand people from Motovun and the surrounding villages is perfectly enough for me. More than a billion people is way beyond me. The very number is well past my comprehension. Returning to today’s surge, I hope the Chinese visitors will never be attracted by my writings. Mere gibberish, anyway.
Addendum (February 13, 2015)
Luckily, the Beijing surge seems to be over. My Google Analytics numbers are back to normal by now. To my amazement, not a single Chinese visitor looked beyond the page they had landed on, which jacked up the bounce rate on my website to the highest number I have ever seen: seventy-five percent. Three quarters! Anyway, it is over. And I keep hoping my gibberish will attract no-one else from China. Ever. For crying out loud, it is all about a single human being lost in space!
