LEISURE, WORK (October 19, 2015)
It is late in the season, and the weather is getting quite iffy at times, but Motovun is still teeming with tourists. As is usual at this time of year, many of them are either elderly or schoolchildren on excursions. Perhaps the only surprise is the number of tourists from Asia. Coming mainly from South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan, they are hard to miss in the narrow streets and cozy squares. More often than not, they come in large groups. But one such group that appeared this morning was rather different than the others: its members spread around the hilltown with their drawing and painting utensils. In this respect, they looked very like British tourists, who often brandish pens, pencils, brushes, and pads of paper of different sizes. The Asians are learning fast, it appears. And leisure follows work at a clip.
