GUN TV (December 8, 2015)

A new American television channel dedicated to firearms is in the news. Gun TV is its name, and it is set to debut in January 2016. Founded by television home shopping industry veterans Valerie Castle and Doug Bornstein, the channel will sell guns, ammunition, firearms accessories, and related gear. Gun TV is to start with six hours of programming a week, but it will expand to twenty-four hours every single day within its first year. The originators of the channel claim that it is merely catering to market demand, and they dismiss the charge that it will increase gun ownership in the country that is already suffering from a growing number of mass shootings. Also, automatic weapons will not be delivered right to the buyer’s doorstep. Instead, Gun TV will route orders through a gun wholesaler to local retail stores, where customers will have to complete background checks and paperwork before they can take the firearms home. In short, everything is hunky-dory. As for European viewers of Gun TV, they can only dream of the day when the channel will come alive in their own midst, as well. Whether the firearms are for home protection, recreation, or hunting, they will surely have a long wait. As ever, America leads the way. At least as far as firearms are concerned, the lead is no less than prodigious.
