GO BRITAIN, GO! (May 8, 2015)

Even though it did not even cross my mind to take part in yesterday’s British elections, I followed the event with due care. After weeks of guessing, the results are clear this morning. The Conservatives won, and handsomely. It is also clear that the media should stick to reporting rather than taking part in political shenanigans. Last but not least, it is clear that political surveys are for the birds. Predictions bear little resemblance to actual results, and they should be taken with a huge grain of salt in the future. Anyhow, the Conservatives won, and their promise of a referendum on the European Union in 2017 is all I care about at this juncture. I may well take part in that referendum through the British embassy in Croatia. In fact, I am ever more eager to cast my vote in this case. The Union has become a joke, and it is time for a serious shakeup. The departure of Britain would be a big blow for the Union, and it is possible that it will reconstitute itself with greater care afterwards. But it is much more likely that it will disassemble itself in the fullness of time, for there is little of substance that holds it together. Only promises, and most silly ones at that. Be that as it may, the results of yesterday’s British elections are very to my taste. Go Britain, go!
